I hope you can join me for an Eastsound walk on Thursday, July 19th, 10-11:30 am. We will start from our current offices and walk over to see our new office space on Urner Street. From there we will walk ‘the back way’ to Madrona Point, where Peter Fisher will join us to discuss the historic use of the point property and the hope for future use. Next, we will swing by the new development on Haven Rd. and finish up at the April’s Grove site and hear where that project is at this point. (Here is a link to a couple of good videos on the project-https://www.opalclt.org/news/opal-videos/). This is a great opportunity to see what has been happening in Eastsound–there has been plenty of changes this year! Please RSVP if you can join us (call the office at 360-376-6423).

There are also big changes at the Orcas Center. Jim Bredouw has signed on as interim Executive Director. Many may know Jim as the founder and key developer of the Funhouse Commons. Jim brings great experience, deep knowledge of the community, and strong creativity to the Center. It will be exciting to see him unleash the potential the Center holds. I am so grateful that he has stepped up to this task.

Finally, many of you may have heard about the remarkable rescue that Orcas EMS and the Coast Guard conducted on the night of the 4th.  A visitor fell a considerable distance down a cliff and into the water while hiking around Obstruction Island. She survived, thanks to the team of responders–truly an amazing effort by all. Watch the video as they lifted the patient into the helicopter. I am so grateful to be part of team Orcas Fire and Rescue.

Stay safe and have a great week!
Hilary
