OICF hosted the kick off meeting for the 2019 GiveOrcas campaign on February 21. We had representatives from about 30 organizations. It will be interesting to see how many submit proposals.

At the meeting, we announced our plans for a single focus GiveOrcas campaign to support OPAL’s April’s Grove community of affordable rental homes. I was heartened by how the nonprofits were really pleased by the news. They confirmed that access to housing is a critical issue for their programs as well and clearly hope that these 45 homes will ease the chronic shortage.

It will be an interesting campaign, as normally we rely on the efforts of the 20-25 nonprofits in the campaign to spread the word and help drive donors to the catalog. We are planning on setting up teams of 5-10 people to be campaign champions, reaching out to their networks to raise both awareness and dollars. The campaign will kick-off with an old fashion Field Day on June 29th at the Orcas Center. Teams will compete in tug of war, egg toss, and there may even be a dunk tank.

I am hopeful that this effort will help raise community awareness and investment. If you are interested in being on a team, or supporting the campaign in anyway, please let me know. This is a great opportunity for us to come together and get this project over the finish line.

I am heading off for vacation and look forward to reconnecting in after March 11. Adios-  (Yes, that’s a hint!)
