Give Orcas 2018 is a wrap! Thanks to all who contributed, we set a new Partner in Philanthropy record, with 377 individuals this year (up from 276 in 2017) and fully funded 14 of the 20 proposals, distributing $234,000. A complete list of grants can be seen in the Sounder article here.

This was OICF’s fifth year using the Give Orcas grant process, which is truly unique to this community. Since 2013, there have been 1279 individuals who donated through the catalog, approximately 25% of the island population. Together, Partners have contributed $1.3 million in grants to over 70 different organizations. The grants have strengthened the community in countless ways, from school gardens to launching the Loan Fund, from providing meals at the Senior Center, to case management at the Resource Center, and so much more. Because you give, the island is thriving.

As we head into summer, there are many other ways to get involved as well.

  • It wouldn’t be Orcas without a parade! The annual Kaleidoscope Pet Parade is May 26 at 11am in Eastsound.
  • There is a free concert with the Seattle Rock Orchestra on Sunday, May 27 at 3 p.m. on the Doe Bay Resort main stage.
  • This Thursday, May 31, is the Prosperity Report with Greg Winters: a great way to learn more about all aspects of Orcas.
  • And on June 2nd the Orcas Island Education Foundation is hosting their “Food For Thought’ dinner at Camp Fourwinds. This is a truly yummy way to support our public schools. Tickets are available at https://oief.smalldognet.com/erp/donate/list/ticket.

Wishing you all a glorious weekend,
Hilary
