Ready to Serve!
Have you ever considered joining a nonprofit Board? Board service is a wonderful way to support causes you care about, meet new people, and connect the community. With over 100 local nonprofits, there are many organizations to choose from, so how do you start?
The Orcas Island Community Foundation is hosting an Introduction to Board Service on Tuesday, April 12 at noon via Zoom. This hour-long program will provide an overview on Board responsibilities and how to select the right Board to make the most of your contributions. Content will be geared towards those who are new to Board service or who are considering future service. Topics will include rules and responsibilities, how to assess organizational culture to assure a good fit, understanding financial statements, and more. To register, contact Ed or call 360-376-6423 with questions.
Hone Your Board Skills
Are you interested in building your Board skills? This spring, Washington Nonprofits is hosting a series of three Board trainings focused on the key cornerstones of effective board performance: board practice, finance, and law. The series is on Zoom and available for free, thanks to support from the Secretary of State. These programs will provide an excellent refresher on roles and responsibilities for all.
The first class is Boards in Gear, on April 19th, followed by Finance Unlocked for Nonprofits on May 11th and then Let’s Go Legal on June 8th.
Sign up as an individual or sign up with your full Board. Register here.
Throughout the series, the Orcas Island Community Foundation will be hosting a few gatherings for Orcas participants. These will provide an opportunity to ask questions, dive deeper into subjects, and connect to board members throughout the community. Contact Ed to receive more information.
Thank you to everyone who serves on a Board. Your leadership builds our community resilience.
