One of the (many) wonderful aspects of OICF having our own building is the opportunity to dedicate space as a community gathering place. The Volk Family Meeting Room is available free of charge to local organizations. It is equipped with wifi, VIOP conference phone, video screen, and seating for up to 16. During the first 10 months of this year, the Volk Family Meeting Room has been used 209 times by 29 programs and organizations including: Island Stewards, Friends of Moran, OICMF, Food Bank, OCRC, Orcas Island Film Fest, Jazz Fest, Actors Theater, Recovery in Community, Chamber of Commerce, Early Childhood Education Initiative, Lahari, APS, OIEF, MAG, the Vacation Rental Group, SJI Conservation Corps, Senior Center, EPRC, Lions Club, Orcas Women’s Coalition, Camp Fourwinds, OISD, OPAL, 4H, Kaleidoscope, two support groups and two Home Owner’s Associations. Such a great resource! Thank you to the Volk and Henigson families for making it possible.

The Animal Protection Society is hosting a celebration for Marsha Waunch in honor of her retirement from the shelter. It will be Sunday, November 17, 3-5 pm in the Madrona Room at the Orcas Center. Marsha (and Bob) have been the life force behind the shelter and it is truly their living legacy gift to this community. I hope you can join the celebration.

The Track celebration (originally scheduled for Nov. 16th) at the public school has been rescheduled until Spring. After the heavy rains of September, the powers-that-be decided that they should wait until Spring to put the final layer on the surface.

OICF’s Holiday Catalog proposal submission deadline is Friday the 15th at 5 pm. Give us a call if you are mulling over a request; we are always happy to help hone ideas.

Have a great weekend-
Hilary
