Acrobatic Conundrum

Orcas Island Fire and Rescue will be holding an EMT Academy this fall.  It is a fairly intensive multi month program that can be completed locally.  There is a small book fee that is reimbursed upon completion of the course.  I took the class 22 years ago and have served as a volunteer since.  It has been a very rewarding experience and has deepened my sense of community significantly.  I would encourage you to consider it if you have any inclination.  We are especially in need of volunteers in the Deer Harbor and Olga/Doe Bay areas.  Feel free to call me or contact Jim McCorison at OIFR if you would like to learn more.

The San Juan Island Grange is hosting a public conversation for citizens to learn about the proposed amendments that have come out of the Charter Review Commission. The format  will be a panel discussion with time for Q&A after each amendment discussion. It will be on zoom this Monday from 6:30-7:45.  Here is the zoom link.

Tonight is the last open air concert on the Village Green sponsored by the Orcas Center.  Tonight’s performers include Acrobatic Conundrum, Luc and Benjamin, Rafe Pearlman, and more!  The program starts at 6 and it is recommended that you bring chairs and/or blankets for seating and encourage mask wearing and distancing.

Finally, the schools are all reopening this week.  Thank you to everyone who has worked so hard to find a safe way to manage the return to in person learning.  It has been a huge effort and is greatly appreciated.  Can’t wait to see those school busses on the road!

Have a good weekend-
Hilary
