There have been a few articles about Donor Advised Funds in the news lately, spurned by the amazing growth of the Silicon Valley Community Foundation. They have amassed over a Billion dollars under management, but do not have a great record of getting those dollars into the community for charitable work (read more here).

Fortunately for the Orcas Island Community, our Foundation has a very different model. Last year, donors deposited $1,120,000 into Donor Advised Funds (DAF’s) under OICF management and made grants of $938,000- a payout rate of 83%. OICF’s goal is to make it easy for donors to connect to the programs they are passionate about and since 2014, DAF’s grants have totaled $3,590,000. That is great support for so many local nonprofits, schools, the Library and more, as over 75% of grants are made to Orcas organizations. It is also a great way for donors to maximize their tax benefits and minimize administration and tracking.

If you want to learn more about the benefits of a DAF, or if you currently have a DAF held elsewhere and would like to compare our fee structure and support services, please give us a call.  We think you might like what you hear and we would welcome you to test drive our system.

OICF will be hosting a Board Boot Camp on September 20th from 1-5, at the Eastsound Fire Hall. This is a good session for folks new to Board service as well as those who would like a refresher. This workshop will cover how to hold a constructive meeting, core member responsibility, committee structures, and more. Cost is $10 per person or $25 per organization and you can bring as many folks as you would like. Seating is limited, so please RSVP by September 10th by emailing megan@oicf.us or calling our office at 360-376-6423. You may also buy tickets online.

Hope you have a great weekend.
