Work on the Urner Street building is fully underway. Ken Katz and his crew have replaced almost all of the windows and will start painting soon. New heating systems go in within the month and the roof will be replaced in August. When the work is all done, OICF will have a beautiful office and we will have a community meeting space that will be large enough for board meetings and available to all nonprofits to use. There will also be three office rentals which will be a good revenue stream for future building needs. Our goal is to be in the new space in September, just in time to celebrate at the Report to Community. If you are interested in seeing the building progress, call or swing by and I would be delighted to give you a tour.
This project is possible thanks to Bob and Carolyn Volk who gave OICF the building and to Bob Henigson for the legacy gift that is financing the remodel. I am truly honored that by their investment in the future of this community. It will certainly have an impact for generations to come. Quite a legacy, indeed!
Saturday, June 16 is the High School Graduation (2 pm in the HS Gym). This event is a remarkable Orcas tradition. The ceremony is uniquely personal and very sweet. Bring your hanky if you are planning to attend. It is always interesting to learn more about the graduates and hear where the next chapter begins. We hear how highly ranked our school district is, but seeing these students and hearing about their accomplishments brings that distinction to life.
Hope to see you there!
