Many of you smile when you think of Ginny Lu Wood, proprietor of Wood’s Cove and major Gal-About-Town. She loved this community and the waters that surrounded us. She always had a twinkle in her eye and was quick to hug and share her hearty laugh.

Ginny Lu left her legacy to this community when she donated the proceeds from the sale of her home to the Community Foundation. It is an unrestricted gift, allowing the Foundation Board to decide how best to use the funds.

In keeping with Ginny Lu’s commitment to the environment, OICF will be starting a new socially responsible investment pool- the Blue Marble Fund– in her honor. The proceeds this investment generates will be available to support those things on Orcas that sang to Ginny Lu, like helping neighbors in need, environmental programs, art, and more.  I am deeply honored that Ginny Lu invested her legacy with OICF and I look forward to making Blue Marble grants to carry her spirit forward. This investment pool will also be available to other community members and organizations who would like to invest with a social lens as well.

The celebration of Ginny Lu’s life is April 7 at the Odd Fellow’s Hall, 1-5 pm. I hope to see many of you there.

The Community Resource Center has done it again! They have found housing for a fellow who has lived without a kitchen, bath or running water for 30 years. What a great transition. They are now seeking a gently used couch or love seat for this fellow. If you have one to share, call Jana at 360-376-3184.

Wishing you a lovely weekend-
Hilary
