Giant Killer Worm Emerges on Crescent Beach

Orcas celebrates Halloween with pizazz.  Island Market hosts a decoration contest between their departments, witches swarm Eastsound on paddle boards, and families parade through town trick-or-treating at every store.  It is Spooktacular!  Hope you get out and enjoy it on Sunday.

The island lost two of our most amazing women recently.  Joyce Burghardt died on the 19th and Abby Rueb passed a week later on the 25th.  These two knew the value of community like few others.  Joyce was a founding member of OICF and so much more. See the Sounder article, published in 2016, to coincide with OICF honoring her at the Report to Community for a life of philanthropy and community commitment.  Abby was a life long islander who was a surrogate Mom to hundreds through Four Winds Camp, and her welcoming home was always filled with joy and the scent of something wonderful baking in the kitchen. These two knew how to make you feel cared for, connected, and ready to pitch in on whatever scheme they were planning.  They never missed a chance to make things better.  True community leaders and so very missed.

Tuesday is Election Day.  Get those ballots in!  And thank you to everyone who is running. Our democracy works best when we all participate.  We have many positions to fill that are crucial to the well being of our community. I hope we can figure out ways we can encourage more folks to run in the future.  Let me know if you have some ideas of how to make that happen.

Have a great weekend.
