Anika Blackman
Orcas Island Food Bank, Volunteer

Can you share a little bit about yourself?

I was born in Kazakhstan, but I moved to the United States when I was around eight months old. From there, I moved to Boston, Philadelphia, Seattle, and now Orcas Island.  For the most part, I enjoy reading, writing, and hiking in my spare time.

Tell us a little bit about the organization you volunteer at.

The Orcas Food Bank strives towards making healthy foods and necessities accessible to everyone in need. They rely on many local farms and people to help support others in the community.

What does volunteering do for you?

The Food Bank is a place that I really enjoy. The people who work there are lovely and the work there is satisfying. On top of that, I have learned so much about both business and produce.

Visit the Orcas Island Food Bank to learn more. Reach out to them if you would like to get involved.

If you would like to learn about other volunteer opportunities on Orcas, please email Ed. He would love to get together for tea/coffee to chat about your interests.
