OISD Students thank Orkila for their outdoor education opportunities
Today marks the end of the school year for the Orcas Island School District. What a year it has been. Thank you to all the teachers, staff, administrators, parents and students who had to develop new ways to learn and live this past year. Grateful for the effort, humor, and grace that got you all through it.
The district has announced that the school will be back in person for the 2021-22 school year. What a relief. They have also announced that they will be continuing the weekly Outdoor Education program at Camp Orkila, thanks to the support of the Community Emergency Response Fund donations that were matched by All in Washington. Fantastic news and a great addition to the curriculum.
The Senior Class was awarded over $350,000 in scholarships. What remarkable support! If you did not have the opportunity to watch the Celebration of Success, the full list of scholarship awards can be found here.
Next Saturday is the dedication of the Track and the first annual Bob Henigson Fun Run. It begins at noon, June 26, behind the High School. Come enjoy a leisurely stroll or a wild sprint and celebrate this great addition to the school campus.
Finally, the Children’s House Mayoral Race is underway. If you have not yet voted, they are encouraging you to do so now and often. It should be known that we have a ‘horse in the race’ as Ricky the Lizard (and current lead) lives with Megan Neal and family.
I hope you have a great weekend!
