New track at Orcas Island School District

Even in these difficult days, the work of the community continues. Several of our nonprofits and elected boards are working on plans to help move us forward. It is so challenging to plan next steps when the baseline continues to shift, and we are so grateful to these teams for making the effort.

The Orcas Island Health Care District continues to pursue a clinical model that will work best for this community. They are currently reviewing the proposal put forth by Island Hospital.  There will be a virtual meeting this Thursday at 5 pm (https://us02web.zoom.us/j/81440068607) where Island Hospital will address the questions from the community. Topics will include their lessons learned from the past and how they envision a new future, their approach to an integrated clinic, community collaboration and engagement, and after-hours coverage/collaboration with EMS. Additional questions and comments can also be submitted to the District Superintendent, Anne Presson, in advance of the meeting by emailing annep@orcashealth.org, or via cell/text at 415-999-5611.

The Orcas School District has also been working diligently to develop a plan for school this fall. The schools are key to helping students manage these times and helping families get back to work. I am grateful that the team working on this has been dedicated to finding a working solution for the island. The District has surveyed families, teachers, and staff and have created a plan that they have submitted to the County Health Officer. Once it is approved, they will also be hosting a virtual community meeting to discuss the details on August 5th. I will distribute the link when it is posted.

I hope you are staying well and finding some peace and grace in each day.
