The Kiwanis Club in parade
As we head into the July Fourth weekend, I have to admit to having pretty conflicted feelings about celebrating this Nation. The recent January 6th hearings, rulings from the Supreme Court, and ongoing racial and gun violence have made my heart heavy. That said, I do feel we, as a nation, have all the skill and wisdom needed to find a path that runs towards justice. We just need the will and determination. This weekend is a good time to recommit to the effort. I hope we do.
I will be volunteering as a helper for the parade, which starts at Noon tomorrow. Parking in Eastsound is likely going to be a challenge. If you are able to walk a bit, there should be space available in the lot behind the schools. There will also be parking across from the Fire Hall for the Fire and EMS pancake breakfast on Saturday morning.
Additional festivities for the weekend include the Lion’s Club Salmon Barbeque, also at the Fire Hall on Saturday night, and a Pig Roast at the American Legion on Sunday. These events are all fundraisers for these service organizations that provide great support for this community. What a good (and delicious) way to thank them!
There have been plenty of changes in Eastsound this year. If you are interested in touring the town, I am available for walks in the next few weeks. It would be great to catch up as well.
Wishing you all a peaceful and jolly Holiday—
Hilary
