Morning Fog in Olga

The month dawned and brought the fog with it.  Feels like fall is not too far away.

What a summer this has been!  Downtown Eastsound has been busy despite the ferry issues and road construction.  There have been so many great outdoors concerts, parades, and farmers markets keeping us all entertained and well fed.  It definitely feels like we were all ready to take the masks off and celebrate, and fortunately the weather cooperated!

Congratulations to the road crew for finishing the Prune Alley project on time.  The ribbon cutting was last night, and the street is open to drive today.  What a relief!  Thanks to all the businesses and residents who had patience even when directly impacted.  Hopefully, the new sidewalks and parking spaces will lure shoppers back quickly.

This week, OICF worked with The Orcas Aviation Association to open the Mercy Flight Fund.  The Mercy Flight Program offers air transportation to islanders who need help traveling to medical appointments. The pilots are all volunteers. The community contributes to help with fuel costs.  Read more about the program.  Thanks to those of you who have already donated.  It is so reassuring to know that if you or your family ends up needing help, Mercy Flight is at the ready.

We are still accepting applications for our Finance Administrator.  Please help spread the word.  The hours are flexible and the work is meaningful.  We are looking forward to expanding our team!

And if you have not already seen the volunteer spotlights that Ed has been producing—One Person Can Make a Difference—check out the latest write ups over the last month. Great to learn more about our neighbors!

I hope you have a lovely long weekend—
Hilary
