The Hansen Family raises the flag at the Doe Bay Independence Celebration

The island is bustling with visitors and delivery trucks, all preparing for a very busy weekend.

Tonight, the Orcas Island Winery is hosting a concert to benefit the Hive.  The Hive was launched by OICF’s Megan Neal and is focused on islanders in their 20’s-40’s who are interested in building community through volunteerism and philanthropy.  The funds raised at the concert will support future Hive grantmaking.  Unfortunately, tickets are already sold out, but keep an eye for the next Hive event.

The parade is scheduled for high noon on Saturday in Eastsound and is honoring all Covid Response supporters (including OICF!).  Clearly, OICF’s response was fueled by the hundreds of community members who contributed to the Community Emergency Response Ffund, so the parade is truly in your honor.  Thank you!

The Farmers Market will be in full swing and the Mayor’s Race winner will be announced. (Come on, Ricky!).  While the fireworks are being skipped again this year, there is a laser show at Mount Baker Farm.

It all feels like a big step towards returning to normal.  With over 78% of SJ County residents fully vaccinated, we are in a very good position to safely start mingling again.  Certainly worthy of mighty celebration!

Wishing you all a safe and sane weekend.
