All About The Good
We are all thawed out, some businesses return from their hibernation and little signs of new life are appearing in pockets all over the island. Spring is around the corner! These pockets of ideas, energy, and genuine care continually propel us forward into new seasons. We are excited to share several opportunities to do good.
One week remains! Applications are now open for the Spring GiveOrcas Campaign, which is all about giving to projects that give new life! GiveOrcas Campaigns are a way to build community awareness of local organizations and raise funds to support the programs that make Orcas a stronger, more resilient community – an island of neighbors continually caring for one another. Applications are open through February 27, and the spring campaign will run from May 6 – 15. Learn more on our website.
Another fantastic way to exercise your creativity, leadership and skills might be through serving on a nonprofit board. These groups of people fuel our community. If you have recently joined a nonprofit board, or are interested in joining one, we will be hosting a virtual Introduction to Board Service Workshop on Wednesday, February 26, from 4 – 6pm. Please register in advance.
Share the goodness! Are you part of a nonprofit with stories to tell? We want to hear. We would like to hear about the positive impact your organization is having on individuals / programs / places it is touching. We are seeking to share people’s voices through a new communications installment that will be taking form through OICF’s communication channels. The intention is to share the voice of those impacted positively by your efforts to inspire more new life. Please submit quotes, photos and stories that are relatively short in length. We will be accepting these “Voice of Impact” on an ongoing basis in an effort to amplify all of our efforts. tera@oicf.us.
More goodness this week? This Sunday, the American Legion Post 93 World Famous Pancake Breakfast is on! Enjoy pancakes, your choice of bacon or sausage, and two eggs cooked as you like. Plus, there will be coffee, tea, and orange juice! Round up the family and join the island tradition: 793 Crescent Beach Drive – Sunday, February 23 from 8am-12pm.
The OI Education Foundation’s Grilled Cheese Showdown is back! Benefiting your Orcas Island Vikings and all sorts of activities at OISD, chefs create what they think is the BEST grilled cheese sandwich ever, in a friendly competition among six island “chefs.” Attendees are the judges, tasting each sandwich and voting on their favorite. There will be up to 200 guests, and chefs are cooking live, making for a chaotic and fun time! Seatings are at 5 pm, 5:30 pm, or 6 pm. Tickets are $15 for adults and $5 for kids under 13 years of age. This event sells out, so clear your calendars for Wednesday, February 26!
Enjoy and live it up!
