Be the Light
The holiday season is upon us, a time many of us gather with family and friends, reflect on the past year, or simply cozy up to the fire with a good book and a warm drink. Some head south to seek more sun, others to the mountains in search of snow. Whatever your plans, I hope you join me in taking a moment to reflect and honor our progress in building a strong and healthy Orcas community.
There’s a great opportunity to celebrate community tomorrow night! The Winter Solstice Luminaria Parade is December 21, starting at 5pm at Haven Road (near Odd Fellows). I hope to see you there to “Be the Light.”
There’s a lot to celebrate, and yet a lot of work to be done. We have neighbors in need of stable housing, adequate food and nourishment, access to healthcare, and basic resources and necessities to thrive. The organizations that help fulfill these needs as well as so many others that support our families, seniors, and create enriching experiences and a healthy environment are working harder than ever.
As I look to the new year, I’m asking myself how best to tackle the challenges ahead, how to harness my energy in the best way possible and continue the positive momentum. I don’t have all the answers yet, but one thing I’m sure of is we will do it together, as a community. And I’m thankful. For each and every donor, nonprofit team, volunteer, community partner and leader, for your commitment to meeting our challenges together.
Please consider a year-end donation to support our progress and momentum. OICF has new donation forms available to help facilitate your gifts online or via RMD or QCD, stock, or with pass-through donations. Learn more and see our holiday hours on our website, or contact me anytime.
On behalf of OICF, I wish you an abundance of peace and joy as we prepare for the new year.
