What an Honor!
The Chamber of Commerce Board has selected me to be the Grand Marshall for the parade on Saturday. It is quite an honor and a bit embarrassing. I have been working on my wave and trying to shore up my confidence for the brief but most public ride.
The theme of this year’s parade is All Together Now. While I will be sitting solo in the classic corvette (a 1959 vintage, just like me!), I like to think that I will be carrying the OICF Team with me- the 88 Board members who have served on the OICF board of the past 29 years, the 11 staff members who have worked for the Foundation, the hundred nonprofit peers whose work OICF supports and the thousands of donors who have contributed to and through OICF to build a resilient community. Each and every one has helped build the Foundation into the vital organization it is today, serving all of Orcas. I may look like a singleton, but I will be surrounded by a community of support. We really have been all in it together, building community one connection at a time!
It has been an honor to serve the community for the past 17 years. That said, my garden awaits. I am looking forward to seeing OICF 2.0 under the leadership of Lindsay Jennings and a most capable board. I am certain there will be great things to come!
OICF is starting a matching pool for the Senior Center building purchase. We have $25,000 to match. It would be great to get the pool to $50,000 (so the total gift once matching happens would be $100,000). If you would like to add to the match pool, please let me know. hilary@oicf.us or 360 376-6423. We will begin fundraising next week.
Hope to see you at the parade!
Best-
Hilary
