Can you share a little bit about yourself?
I’ve been on Orcas now 28 years. We moved here to live in an environment closely linked to the forest and the sea. I am most comfortable, delighted, and challenged working in my studio.
Tell us a little bit about the organization you volunteer at.
Art for Orcas Kids (A*OK) is a community-donor and grant-sponsored program of the Orcas Island Education Foundation (OIEF). All Orcas Island School District (OISD) students in the elementary and middle schools enjoy time learning about new materials, techniques, and cultures in their weekly art lessons. A*OK also sponsors a very cool high school art club. I am also grateful for the support OICF has offered through the years.
What does volunteering do for you?
Working with A*OK combines many things that I cherish—facilitating teaching art and contributing wholeheartedly to the community! I have the greatest respect for the A*OK teaching artists, Brook and Alexis, our A*OK administrator, Danna, and OIEF. It is a privilege to be on such a team.
My role is just to keep things moving along smoothly! I am passionate about nurturing creativity in our youngest population. Thinking outside the box and letting imaginations soar are skills that can be carried far beyond art class. Art teaches problem solving, brave experimentation, focus, and it is just plain fun! What can be better?
