Waldron
I had the good fortune to go on a tour of the Helsell property with Pete Helsell himself this week. The property borders Turtlehead and has a commanding view of Waldron and beyond. Ruth Brown, of Four Winds fame, gave the land to Pete’s grandmother and it is now owned by Pete, his siblings and cousins. They have worked with the Preservation Trust and the Land Bank to put conservation easements around much of the property which will ensure that most of the land stays pretty much a forest into the future. Good stewardship!
The GiveOrcas Holiday Catalog is getting close. The Grants Committee is currently vetting the 17 proposals that we received. The Flat Person has arrived and the first hint about their identity will drop on November 24th so you will have plenty to talk about over your Thanksgiving meal. The window for donating through GiveOrcas is December 1st through the 15th. There will be a few fun game days thrown in to keep the excitement rolling. There is a total of just under $150,000 being requested and our goal is to get each and every one fully funded. Thanks in advance for helping to make that happen.
I was reminded that we now have a third option for medical flight services, Life Flight, based in Port Angeles. They have been used a few times recently, so you may want to consider adding that membership as well.
There are still slots available for the booster clinics next week at Orcas Center. Tuesday is the first pediatric clinic (YIPPIE!) followed by two days of Booster shots. You can sign up here.
Hope you have a lovely weekend.
