Thank you to everyone who has helped get this community vaccinated. San Juan County Health, Ray’s Pharmacy, Orcas Island Family Health, Orcas Center and the many volunteers who have pitched in over the past four months. According to the most recent data, San Juan County has reached 78.8% of residents who have initiated the vaccine with 64% fully vaccinated. There are a few more opportunities to sign up for a jab locally.

Due to the current gathering restrictions, we were unable to host a community Grant Awards Celebration.  Hopefully, we will have a big party next year!  The nonprofits put together a video to send their thanks, which can be accessed through the following link:

A special shout out to Michael Brennan for making the Youth Grant Program possible. It is always heartwarming to hear where the students want to shine a light and send some love. This year they made grants to the Orcas Island Food Bank ($1000), Islands’ Oil Spill Association ($1000), Orcas Fire and Rescue ($2000), OPAL Community Land Trust ($2500), SAFE San Juan’s ($1500), Orcas Senior Center ($1000) and Orcas Parks and Recreation ($1000). Fantastic support of so many great programs. Their announcement can be watched here:

I am launching weekly walking tours of local organizations and an update on current activities in the community. This coming week, there is one scheduled for Tuesday morning at 9:30 and Thursday afternoon at 4. We meet at the OICF office on Urner Street and take a fairly leisurely stroll that lasts about an hour. Participation is limited to 5, so please send me an email if you would like to join. It is a fun way to see what’s new in Eastsound and catch up before the season takes off.

Hope to see you soon,
Hilary
