Across Orcas Island, people and organizations are facing harmful effects of federal funding cuts, along with policy changes that threaten important programs that support the health of our community. The nonprofit community is just beginning to understand these rapidly evolving changes. A summary illustrating what we know so far from our recent nonprofit survey is provided below.

The Foundation will continue to monitor policy changes and local impacts, and develop strategies to help fill gaps and support nonprofits to continue to thrive in these uncertain times.

While there’s a lot happening in the world that we cannot control, we can make an impact locally by donating our time or money, and building connections with our neighbors. Philanthropy alone may not be able to fill the gap created by the loss in federal funds, but your contributions right now can help!

  • Donate to a fund on the OICF website.

  • If you have a donor advised fund, now is a good time to recommend a grant to a local nonprofit.

  • Reach out to your favorite organization to find out how you can help by donating your time or talent!

  • Spring GiveOrcas is on the horizon, May 6 – 15, and is shaping up to be a fantastic opportunity to support 36 innovative programs and projects. Stay tuned for more details!
