My time on the east coast is coming to an end. I have had a great time seeing old friends and family, as well as the amazing colors of the season. Even so, I am looking forward to the damp beauty of the Northwest.
The OICF Team has been busy while I was away. Friday was the deadline for the Holiday GiveOrcas Campaign proposals. We have received 24 applications totaling $236,250, making this our biggest Holiday Campaign so far. We suspect this is due, in part, to having many nonprofits still not quite back to pre-pandemic practices and finding GiveOrcas a good supplement for their fundraising efforts. It will be interesting to see if we can get everyone over the finish line. I sure hope so. Flat Person guessing begins on Wednesday, November 23rd, with the campaign opening for donations on Thursday, December 1st.
The Orcas Island Health Care District has hired Chris Chord to be their superintendent. I am really excited to work with Chris, as he is very knowledgeable and a creative problem solver. I believe his fresh perspective will help our community find a sustainable plan for medical services going forward. Welcome, Chris!
Our island has some great Halloween traditions. Sunday, the witches take to their paddleboards at noon on Cascade Lake. Monday afternoon, Eastsound will be swarming with Trick or Treaters from 3–6 p.m. It’s a great time to hang out in front of Olga’s Rising or Roots and watch the parade of costumes roll by.
We have certainly rolled into fall with full force.
