Can you share a little bit about yourself?
Hi! I’m Laura. I’m a pro-celebration, spa-forward, highly curious writer and mover, rogue event producer, breath worker, entrepreneur and sailor-in-training. I work in many different arenas but come to all of my work with the desire to reduce dissonance between relationships and ideas. I moved to Orcas in 2018 for love. Some highlights of my collaborations on the island include an induction to the community via my job as Orcas Center‘s Marketing Manager, running an Academy for Feral Cheryl’s and the island’s only Church of Lambrusco out of my house, offering introductory courses to the community on Sailing in Dessert Shoes on Orcas’ Hottest Dinner Cruise and, most currently, volunteering time as the graphic designer for the Orcas Island Lit Fest and co-founder of Orcas Pride.
Tell us a little bit about the organizations you volunteer at.
Something I love about both OILF and Orcas Pride is the level of integrity each team has for each mission. Both organizations are comprised of brilliant, dedicated people who fundamentally believe in what they’re doing. It feels like an honor to both witness and be witnessed in this way.
What does volunteering do for you?
One of my favorite things about volunteering as an event producer is being in the very cool position of getting to curate a vibe! I love the feeling of enjoying shared collective interests together. I have really found that in this community, giving is receiving and vice versa.
