Northern Heights Apartments

I was delighted to hand deliver a $100,000 donation to OPAL Community Land Trust this week.  This contribution will be used to purchase the Northern Heights Apartments (across from the Library on Rose Street), preserving 12 affordable rentals.  The OICF Board was able to make this significant contribution thanks to the legacy gift left by Bob Henigson.  Bob was a strong believer in equity and justice and it  is an honor to carry his compassion forward.

Washington Nonprofits is launching their Board Development series this week with Boards in Gear on Tuesday April 19th.  This is a great opportunity to hone your board skills.  The program is free (thanks to a grant from the Washington Secretary of State) and you can sign up here. Sessions will be recorded and available to all registered attendees to view at their convenience.  Future sessions will cover nonprofit finance and legal compliance.

The Great Islands Clean-up will be back in person Saturday, April 23, between 10am-2pm. This year’s theme, All Hands on Deck, celebrates our collaborative efforts as a community to keep our oceans and roads litter free. The Great Islands Clean-up has been happening in the San Juan Islands since 2011 and has been an incredible community event to keep our islands litter-free. Grabbers, gloves, bags, and safety vests will be available for pickup at The Village Green the morning of the event. Collected trash can be brought back to The Village Green before 2pm on 4/23. You can also take it to the transfer station and drop it off for free as “GICU” trash. Contact pete@exchangeorcas.org with questions.

Wishing you the renewal and joy this season holds,
Hilary
