I just returned from the Celebration of Success, the scholarship and awards ceremony for the High School Seniors. What a remarkable event! Scholarships totaling over $100,000 were awarded and it is fair to say that a few lives were changed by these awards. Tomorrow is graduation (2 pm in the Gym). Even if you do not know any of the students, it is a celebration not to miss, and a truly unique Orcas experience.

The Music Advocacy Group held a celebration honoring founder, Joyce Burghardt, last night. MAG has been the driving force behind the amazing growth in the school music program. Joe Cohen and Galen Burghardt announced a $10,000 Challenge grant in honor of Joyce. MAG has until the year’s end to make the match. If you are interested in pitching in, contributions can be made here: https://oicf.fcsuite.com/erp/donate/create?funit_id=1023

If you are heading to the Farmers Market this weekend, take a look at the solar phone charging station that the Applied Physics class has made. Teacher Bret MacFarland is always cooking up cool science projects!

Our schools are such a great reflection of this community. The opportunities that the students are given are amazingly diverse and quite exceptional. It does indeed take an island to raise a Viking. Go Blue!

Have a lovely weekend, and don’t forget the Kleenex if you are coming to graduation!
