Human resources are really our most valuable resources as every nonprofit on the island relies on the efforts of a volunteer board to guide and support their work. A skilled board is critical for the growth and development of the many programs that serve Orcas.

Board service is a great way to get to engage and invest in the community. There are currently an abundance of Board service opportunities. If you are passionate about early childhood education, performing arts, serving youth or seniors, there are great possibilities for you to get connected!  If you have finance skills, like to work through complex puzzles, enjoy engaging with smart and caring people, there is likely a seat at the table just waiting for you.  I would welcome the chance to talk with you about options and learn about ways to get involved before committing to full membership (the ‘date before you marry’ plan).

OICF will be hosting a Board Boot Camp this fall as well. This is an opportunity to learn about the requirements for board service, making meaningful contributions, and helping organizations make the most of your volunteer efforts. It is a great class to refresh your knowledge or to learn more before you jump in. Let me know if you are interested in attending and I will put you on the list and get you the date as soon as it is set.

I hope you have a blast on the Fourth. I will be at the Doe Bay Patriotic Picnic, 11 am at the Doe Bay Fire Hall. It is an old-fashioned celebration worthy of the trip to the far Eastside!

All the best-
Hilary
