OICF in the Community

Community Needs Assessment (2010-11): a rigorous survey and data collection of current needs and local efforts to address those needs on Orcas Island for the purpose of future decision and grant making.

Nonprofit Support: OICF offers many services to all of the nonprofit and service organizations on the island, including:

  • Free use of OICF’s bulk mail permit
  • Use of our conference room at the OICF office
  • Ongoing Best-Practices workshops (“Building a Better Board,” etc.)
  • List-serves and email groups for community sectors/groups
  • Peer group meetings

Call the Community Foundation (376-6423) or email info@oicf.us if you have questions about any of these services.  Also check out the Volunteer Orcas Facebook page to offer services or find opportunities: https://www.facebook.com/groups/volunteerorcas/ (sign into your facebook account first).

Nonprofit and Service Directory: In 2011 OICF worked with local high school senior Iris Pavitt Parker to research and compile an island-wide nonprofit and service directory.  The project has produced a comprehensive list of services on Orcas, listed in alpha-order, or by category.  (If you have questions or wish to update this information please email npo-directory@oicf.us).

Know your Elected Officials: Names and contact information for all Orcas elected officials (public school, fire, port, parks & rec, water, cemetery, etc.) is located on the San Juan County Website: http://wei.secstate.wa.gov/sanjuan/electedofficials/Pages/default.aspx.  A helpful link to San Juan County directories is also available on their site: http://www.co.san-juan.wa.us/DeptDirectory.aspx.
