Endow Orcas

Endow Orcas is an OICF collaborative initiative that works with island non-profits and donors to encourage and better steward legacy planned giving to benefit the Orcas Island community.  Legacy gifts (typically of a testamentary nature) can help build endowments, assist in operational stability and be directed toward the care and stewardship of beloved island institutions and activities of importance to donors.

To date, eight organizations have met the readiness test and have gained Endow Orcas certification: Children’s House, The Funhouse, OPAL Community Land Trust, Orcas Center, Orcas Island Chamber Music Festival, Orcas Island Education Foundation, Orcas Island Medical Center Foundation, and OICF. Each certified non-profit has completed a board approved Case Statement and has drafted a Plan of Action toward specific and measurable organizational endowment goals. Since 2007, these organizations have participated in OICF’s quarterly professional development sessions on endowment and planned giving.

2010 Endow Orcas Meetings:   March 12th,  June 11th, October 8th.  All meetings are held at the Eastsound Fire Hall from 8 am to Noon. Endow Orcas training sessions are open to all island non-profits.

The Orcas Island Community Foundations (OICF) stewards many non-profit endowment funds.  If a local non-profit is not yet ready to host an endowment, donors may set up a ‘Designated Fund’ in support of any 501(c)(3) organization or area of interest they select. Designated Funds support current needs and provide assurances that, if an organization ceases to exist, OICF will continue to distribute funds according the donor’s area of interest.
